✦Guna Milan · गुण मिलान✦
How well do your charts match?
The classical 36-point Ashta Koota system, computed live, not a quiz. We score Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot, and Nadi.
✦The eight kootas✦
What each one means
Varna (1)
Spiritual or caste compatibility based on the Moon sign category.
Vashya (2)
Mutual influence, who responds to whom under stress.
Tara (3)
Birth-star well-being. Counts from one partner's nakshatra to the other in groups of 9.
Yoni (4)
Animal-symbol compatibility, sexual and instinctive temperament.
Graha Maitri (5)
Friendship between the two Moon-sign lords. Mental compatibility.
Gana (6)
Temperament group: Deva (refined), Manushya (human), Rakshasa (intense).
Bhakoot (7)
Relative position of Moon signs, predicts family wealth and harmony.
Nadi (8)
Physiological/genetic compatibility. Same Nadi is traditionally considered a serious concern.
✦FAQ✦
What is the minimum acceptable score?+
18 out of 36. Below this, traditional astrologers ask you to look deeper, at Mangal dosha, dasha alignment, and ascendant compatibility, before deciding.
Does this replace Nadi dosha analysis?+
We check Nadi koota (the 8th of the Ashta Koota system), which catches the standard 'same Nadi' scenario. A complete dosha analysis also considers exceptions (sub-nadi, deva-gana), which require a manual review.
What if exact birth time isn't known?+
Use the closest known time. The Moon's nakshatra changes roughly every 24 hours, so a few hours of uncertainty usually keeps the koota scores stable. The ascendant is not used in this calculation.
How is this different from sun-sign compatibility?+
Sun-sign compatibility is a Western convention. Ashta Koota uses the Moon's nakshatra and sign, the Vedic tradition treats the Moon as the indicator of mind, emotion, and relationship dynamics.
