Manglik Dosha: Are You Manglik, and What It Means
Manglik (Mangal) Dosha is one of the most searched worries before a Hindu marriage. Here is what it actually is, how it is judged from a birth chart, when it cancels, and how to get a clear answer for your own chart.
What is Manglik Dosha?
Manglik Dosha, also called Mangal Dosha or Kuja Dosha, is a placement of Mars (Mangal) in certain houses of the birth chart. In the classical rule, Mars sitting in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house is read as Manglik. Many astrologers check these houses not only from the ascendant (lagna) but also from the Moon and from Venus before giving a verdict.
The concern is specific to marriage. Mars is the planet of drive, heat and assertion, so when it falls on the houses tied to the self, family, home, spouse, longevity and the marital bed, tradition warns of friction, impatience or delay if the match is not handled thoughtfully. It says nothing about your worth or your career.
The houses that make someone Manglik
Mars in any of these six houses is counted, though the strength varies by sign and aspect.
Affects temperament and how you assert yourself inside a marriage.
Touches family, speech and household harmony.
Home life, peace of mind and domestic comfort.
The house of the spouse and partnership itself, read as the strongest form.
Longevity of the marriage, in-laws and shared resources.
The marital bed, privacy and expenses of the union.
When Manglik Dosha cancels (Manglik Bhanga)
Being Manglik is rarely the end of the story. The classics list many cancellations: when both partners are Manglik the dosha is widely held to neutralise; when Mars sits in its own sign (Aries, Scorpio) or is exalted (Capricorn); when strong benefics like Jupiter aspect Mars; and, in several traditions, when marriage happens after roughly age 28.
This is exactly why a yes or no answer from a free online box is not enough. Whether your dosha is mild, strong or already cancelled depends on the sign, the aspects and the reference point (lagna, Moon or Venus) used to judge it.
How to check your own chart
It takes a minute and needs only your birth details.
Date, exact time and place of birth so Mars can be placed correctly. Time matters most for the lagna check.
The chart is cast from real ephemeris math and Mars is checked from the lagna, Moon and Venus.
Sign, aspects and age rules are applied, not just the raw house position.
Whether you are Manglik, how strong it is, and what it realistically means for your match.
Common remedies people ask about
Traditional remedies include Tuesday fasting, recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa or Mangal mantras, offering to Hanuman, and in some cases a symbolic Kumbh Vivah before the actual marriage. Red coral (moonga) is sometimes suggested, but a gemstone should never be worn without a chart-specific reading, since a wrongly chosen stone can do more harm than good.
Treat remedies as support for patience and temperament, not as a magic switch. The most useful first step is simply knowing, clearly, whether the dosha applies to you and how heavy it is.
