When Will I Get Married? Reading Marriage Timing From Your Chart
The question of when marriage will happen is one of the most asked in Vedic astrology. Here is how the timing is actually judged, from the 7th house and its lord, Venus and Jupiter, the Navamsa chart, and the running dasha and transits.
How marriage is read in a birth chart
In Vedic astrology, marriage is read first from the 7th house, the house of the spouse and of partnership, and from the 7th lord, the planet ruling the sign on that house. The condition of the 7th house, the placement and strength of the 7th lord, and the planets sitting in or aspecting the 7th all shape whether marriage comes early, on time or late.
Alongside the house sits the karaka, the natural significator. Venus is the kalatra karaka, the significator of marriage and of the wife, and it is read closely in a man's chart for the spouse. Jupiter is the significator of the husband and is read closely in a woman's chart. A strong, well placed Venus or Jupiter supports a timely and happy marriage, while an afflicted one can point to delay or difficulty.

Why the Navamsa matters

A planet that looks weak in the main chart can gain strength in the Navamsa (a state called vargottama when it holds the same sign in both), and vice versa, so the two charts are always read together for marriage questions.
The Navamsa is used to confirm what the main chart promises. The 7th house of the Navamsa, its lord, and the position of Venus and Jupiter within it refine the reading of when and to whom marriage is likely, rather than replacing the main chart.
How the timing is actually found
Timing comes from the dasha system read together with transits.
The 7th lord, Venus, Jupiter and any planet placed in or aspecting the 7th house are marked as the triggers for marriage.
Marriage tends to occur in the major period (dasha) or sub period (antardasha) of the 7th lord, Venus, or a planet linked to the 7th house.
Jupiter transiting over the 7th house, the 7th lord or the natal Moon often activates the period and points to the likely window.
The D9 confirms the promise and helps narrow the timing to a realistic band, such as a year or a small range of years.
What causes late marriage, and why delay is not denial
Delay is most often linked to Saturn, the planet of patience and time. Saturn influencing the 7th house or the 7th lord, whether by placement or aspect, tends to slow marriage rather than stop it. Rahu on the 7th can bring unconventional timing or unusual circumstances, and a weak or afflicted 7th lord can also push the age of marriage higher.
It is important to read this correctly. A delaying influence pushes marriage later, often into the late twenties or thirties, but delay is not the same as denial. The chart usually still shows the marriage happening, simply in a later dasha or transit window, and Saturn linked marriages are often steady and lasting once they arrive.
Love or arranged, briefly
The chart also hints at the path to marriage. A strong link between the 5th house (romance) and the 7th house (marriage), or a close tie between Venus and the 5th or 7th lord, leans toward a love marriage where you meet the partner yourself. A clean 7th house without such connections, with the match coming through family, leans more toward an arranged introduction.
These are tendencies, not fixed labels, and many charts show a blend of both. The more useful takeaway is the timing itself, since knowing the likely window matters more than the label of how you meet.
